Who are we?
On behalf of our committee, welcome to the AMSA Global Health Network!
The AMSA GHN is a collaboration of Australian Global Health Groups (GHGs) based at medical schools across Australia. Global health groups are medical student-led organisations who work to create grassroots awareness and activism in the interests of global health, welfare and equity on local, national and international levels. In 2010 AMSA GHN brings GHGs together with three principal purposes:
- To facilitate communication, collaboration and unity between GHGs in their grassroots endeavours
- To connect GHGs with other external organisations and groups which share common interests in global health
- To channel the collective inspiration and enthusiasm of GHGs, creating a concerted impact on issues of global inequity and healthcare via the AMSA GHN National Projects and Advocacy campaigns.
The GHN is comprised of a committee of representatives from each GHG and is facilitated by its elected officers and the AMSA Global Health Officer. Starting each GHN calendar year at the AMSA Global Health Conference, the AMSA GHN convenes monthly and has working parties from within its committee for special tasks and projects.
The AMSA GHN was established in 2007 after the AMSA Developing World Conference in response to an overwhelming collective desire between Australian medical students to show solidarity, harness collective enthusiasm and evoke meaningful change to health inequities in the global community. We strive to be a part of a worldwide movement to convey and sustain a sense of global citizenship, unity and responsibility especially as members of the health profession. We aspire to “be the change that we wish to see in the world.’
