Call for Submissions
Are you interested in Global Health? Do you have an unfulfilled childhood dream to be a “published author”? Now is your chance to both live that dream AND inform your peers.
VECTOR, AMSA’s Global Health Network’s publication, NEEDS YOUR SUBMISSIONS!
The theme for Issue 14 of Vector is Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Internally Displaced Persons.
Every day millions of refugees and internally displaced persons face the prospect of an uncertain future.
From the camps of Dadaab to the detention centres of Christmas Island, ones status as a forced migrant acts as an exacerbating multiplier for all other social determinants of health. In the upcoming issue of Vector we are seeking to explore the ideas, views, values and situations that define the refugee experience, and to understand their implications for the health of the individuals involved.
We are seeking opinions, reflections, commentaries, photo essays, personal stories and creative works that explore the multitude of health related concerns that impact upon the lives of Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Internally Displaced Persons. Hot topics we are looking to examine include mental health and detention; resettlement and the challenges of navigating the Australian health system; the impact of gender based violence upon those who have fled persecution; nutritional deficiency; infectious diseases in refugee camp contexts, and many more!
In addition, submissions from students, academics and clinicians about their experiences in electives and overseas placements, and general opinion pieces on pertinent global health issues, are always welcome.
The new deadline for submissions for Issue 14 is the 2nd of December.
Submissions must be:
- Either 1 (500-600 words) or 2 pages (1000 words) including photos (encouraged!) and any references (if required)
- Size 12, Time New Roman font
- Referenced to comply with the standard Vancouver style (if referenced)
- MUST be the student’s original work (collaborative pieces are very welcome, provided all authors are credited)
